Option A: Visit to the Monterroso Prison

Description of Activity: The Monterroso Penitentiary, located 35 kms from Lugo in the geographic center of Galicia, in northwest Spain, holds a population of 500 inmates and over 40 nationalities. Within the framework of security and cohabitation required by confinement, the penitentiary offers a set of school work, cultural, labor and occupational activities, and trainings, as well as a set of activities oriented to the care and social preparation of inmates. During the visit, after the reception offered by the Center Management and staff members, we will visit inside the establishment where inmates live, the infirmary, sports facilities and socio-cultural areas (school classroom, auditorium, and trade workshops), production floors and general kitchen.

Option B: Tourist visit to the city of Lugo

Description of the Activity: The Dannycity of Lugo was founded by the Romans fifteen years before our era, by the name of Lucus Augusti. The city still preserves the City Wall that has witnessed over two thousand years of history. The city is celebrating its tenth anniversary as World Heritage site. On this visit we will travel through the city's Roman past looking at the archaeological remains of the House of Mosaics and the Interpretation Center of the Wall. We will visit the historic old town presided over by Saint Mary’s Cathedral and enjoy a walk along the parapet of the Wall, which ends at its most prominent landmark: the Mosquera. Then we will move to the Paseo del Rio Rato where we can enjoy the superb natural setting that surrounds the city of Lugo. To end this visit we will return to the old town where you can sample traditional tapas meals.

Option C: Xacobeas routes: Sightseeing to Pedradita do Cebreiro

Description of the Activity: Pedrafita do Cebreiro represents the essence of Lugo Mountain, It is situated in the centre of the oriental mountain chain of Galician and rises above 1000m, one of the places with higher elevations of the Community. Its history is well known due to the fact that It is the entrance of French Way to Santiago in Galicia. On this visit, we will contemplate the pallozas, traditional houses of pre-roman times, which result from the adaptation of the inhabitants of this area to the adversities of the weather, nowadays they are used as Ethnography Museum or as pilgrim refuge. We will also visit the Santa Maria do Cebreiro´s  Sanctuary  which enjoys of worldwide fame, according to the legend in this place the Miracle of the Holly Grial took place.

Option D: Xacobeas routes: Sightseeing to Illa Pancha

Description of the Activity: We will visit the city of Ribadeo “open door”, as its slogan attributed affirms, historical village where routes, styles and customs begin. We will have the opportunity of walking a short part of the Way to Santiago heading Illa Pancha, we will contemplate a wide range of monuments and interesting places like the San Damian castle (1624), the Cargadeiro…Once we are in Ribadeo, we will enjoy its gastronomy, its old town and obviously its coast sailing in a crossing through its estuary. The Eo River disembogues at the end of the estuary, forming a first magnitude environment, from a landscaping and ecological point of view.
